In an earlier post, Jack was wrong when he stated that the U500 used 4 cylinder engines. They use MB-OM 900 6-cylinder engines (2002) and MB-OM 906 6-cylinder engines (later). This is from MB literature and was also vertified by a MB Unimog Dealer.
On the hitch/crane U500, I know they built the hitch because I watched them. Since they are Unimog dealers, I do not know why they did not get the hitch from MB if MB has a similar product. This U500 is for Home Depot. If it proves out, they then plan on buying 10 more. If they then continue to prove out, they plan on expanding use of the U500 nationally.
On one inspection MB approved the hitch, but failed the crane installation. The crane unfolds to 30 feet which is longer than most Unimog cranes. On the last test, they bent the frame on a new U500 when they picked up a load 30 feet out. I do not know how this will affect the plans. They are at least trying.
On the RV U500 I was told that it would be a full roll cage. This was in error, the owner just requested a tire rack. The spare tire with rim weighs 450 lbs (tires are oversized). They have an aluminum skid that fits under the spare tire. They did come up with a clever rack design. It does NOT attach to any plastic. As such it would be easy to expand to a full roll cage.
The Ferrari is a Mondial t. Worldwide only 1,017 Mondial t's were made (both convertible and coupe). The car is hand made. A Mondial t was the Ferrari that was driven in the movie, "Scent of a Woman". I only drive it some of the time with my eyes closed. Mondials have also been used in such movies as "Vegas Vacation" with Chevy Chase and "Rock Star" with Mark Wahlberg.
A Mondial t was the Ferrari purchased by Kurt Russell for Goldie Hawn.
Unmodified they will cruise at 160 mph (Car and Driver). Mine has had a few improvements so it will cruise faster. It has things like Z Rated All Season tires the fastest rating that money can buy.
The Mondial t was the first road Ferrari to have such race features as a rear removable sub-frame. The sub-frame contains the engine, transmission, wheels, and accessories. It can be removed as a unit.
However, one of the advantages of a Ferrari is a balanced driving experience. It really shines on twisty roads.
When I was first thinking of buying a Ferrari, I chatted over the Internet with a doctor in San Francisco. He said that no matter how bad a day it had been or how much stress there was, he loved the drive home in the Ferrari. He was able to unwind on the drive and then was able to enjoy his family when he got home. He said it was healthier than Prozac.
Test driving Ferraris and other cars, I found out there was more fun in driving Ferraris and generally fun is good.
There is some truth to the statement in "Scent of a Woman" that went something like Ferrari driving is truly one of life's great experiences. It is.
The Black Lab pup is friendly. However, his name is Black Terror (long story).
